Fissure

A chipmunk sits on a rock on top of a fissure. The chipmunk is small but the rock is heavy. Steam pushes its way upwards, struggling to make its way out, so desperate to just blast the rock away. The steam's gathering, the pressure's building up, it has stayed below for too long! It MUST come out now, it has had enough. A chipmunk? well that's just collateral. It's so tranquile outside though, greenery everywhere, mountains rise high, clouds stagnant at the tops. But the fissure must blow, everything must be destroyed...it must be done!

The earth mother...the chipmunk hears her roar from within, he trembles with her. The earth that allowed him to bury his food in her bosom so he could survive the winter...the earth that nourished some of the seeds he buried to grow into trees...his home...its fruit the food for his offspring...

the chipmunk knows his fate...how can he not know the pulses that the earth mother is resonating. he knows he cannot escape...and he doesn't want to. earth mother does not break the balance of life and if she decides then so be it...death in her arms will be more merciful than falling to the fangs of a wolf...
